Reckoning How Successful The Famous Actor Comedian, Jim Carrey

By Jackie Cooper

It isn't a big surprise that Jim Carrey quickly became both famous and rich. He's funny, has excellent timing, and generally just one of the most hilarious actors in Hollywood. So many people like his style; if you ask someone to name 10 great comedians, odds are Jim Carrey's name will come up in that list.

When trying to pick the best movie of Jim Carrey's career, many people have great difficulty. He has numerous classics under his belt, and people just can't pick one.

Most people can agree that his first two films, the Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, were undeniably excellent. These put him on the map and many recognized him as one of the most talented young comics in the country after these movies made it big. They were right about him.

Dumb and dumber was also a pretty good movie that many people loved. Lloyd Christmas, Jim Carrey's character in the movie, traveled across America in pursuit of his lady love. Jeff Daniels also gave a pretty good performance as Lloyd Christmas' friend; both of them were hilarious with their idiotic antics.

The next film after his first two successes was Dumb and Dumber. This movie probably solidified his place in Hollywood as a great comedian. He played Lloyd Christmas, a dimwitted yet lovable character who chased his dream woman across America. Jeff Daniels also gave a great performance as Jim Carrey's friend.

He did hit a slight slump, however. Movies like The Cable Guy and Me, Myself, and Irene were not as successful as his previous movies. They weren't too bad, though, and quite a few people like them.

There are a lot of films to choose from when examining Jim Carrey's long acting career; the very best movie in his catalog is anybody's guess. You'll be unlikely to come to a consensus regarding the subject. Everyone has their favorite, after all.

When all is said and done, this talented actor has made us laugh for well over 15 years now. How many other people in Hollywood can boast such a claim like that? In a world where today's overnight sensations are soon forgotten about tomorrow, Carrey's body of work has stood the test of time and given us some true classics to appreciate as he continues to churn out new ones. It makes you wonder what may be on the way next.
