Different Tactics On Getting Rid Of Pigeons

By Mary D. Daniels

Who would think a bird could cause so many problems. There is one that can invade your property and be a nuisance. Getting rid of pigeons is an advantage because they carry things like ticks, mites, and fleas. The droppings are unsightly and can take the paint off a car or building.

The best way to stop their infesting your building is to seal it up so they cannot enter to begin with. They like dark, out of the way places, so be sure to seal up any open areas in your eaves, attics, or rafters. They can't occupy an area that they can't to enter.

Some things that will act as repellents in places where the birds have set up housekeeping. The idea behind them is to make the birds so unhappy they will choose to leave. Spike strips can be purchased at hardware stores or online. The strips will make the birds feet highly uncomfortable.

Talk to a pest control owner. They can provide you with chemicals that will make the birds feet stick or burn. Both would be nice in ridding the area of these flying, feathered pests.

If you happen to be a do-it-yourself kind of person you may want to try some home made products. The birds don't like water so a sprinkler would deter them. A bit of electrified wiring would make them most unhappy and they would beat a hasty retreat. A scarecrow made to look like an owl, a cat, or a snake will deter them too.

If all else has failed and you are thinking of finding a way to kill the birds, check with your city ordinance. They may restrict the use of certain chemicals. Avoid ultrasonic repellents. You may as well go out and burn your money, these things are so worthless at getting rid of pigeons.
