How To Be Gay

By Stephanie Richards

Another common interest gay guys have is art. Everything from paintings, graphic design, structures, and sculptures. I personally don't particularly like artsy type things, so I honestly couldn't tell you why this is true...it just is.

Gays love to look good, so everything must always be properly primped and polished. Appearance is everything in the gay world - the better you look, the more power you have. Having a sculpted toned body is almost a requirement for being gay (okay, so I'm not going to say this applies to everywhere...I have seen my fair share of overweight homos).

Coming out to your friends and family can be one of the scariest things to a young gay person. Everyone has different situations, so there isn't always going to be just one answer for every person. You need to start by thinking about how your parents will actually react when they find out you're gay.

As if it wasn't obvious, many gay men are obsessed with fashion. I have some friends that will keep up with all the trends and box away anything that has gone out of style. Usually you can tell right away if someone is gay based on what they are wearing, but you have to keep in mind there are plenty of other gay men out there that blend in with the straight people with their choice of clothing.

If you are truly truly concerned about getting a negative reaction, a good idea might be to write them a letter. This way you can completely express all your feelings and they have no choice but to hear you out. This will also give them time to reflect on what you have said in the letter and allow them to simmer down by the time you come together and talk about it.
