Some of the funniest websites to make you laugh

By Iain Green

We rely on the Internet for a lot of things; to communicate, to find information and, of course, to make us laugh. Whether recovering from a hard day a at work or simply wanting to fill in time, the Internet is full of some hilarious websites, so here's a just a few to get you started.

The Oatmeal
This is the most independent out of the list. Created by one man only, an American called Matthew Inman, The Oatmeal is a witty comic-based website that combines hilarious attention to detail with brilliant graphic artwork. As with all good comedy, Inman draws attention to the smaller things in life, but as we know, it's this detail that usually encourages the biggest laugh.

College Humor
We're all guilty of enjoying a little silly humour, which is why College Humor is definitely worth bookmarking. This website was set up by two, yes you've guessed it, college friends in 1999, and today offers thousands of hilarious and sometimes slightly gross photographs and videos submitted by their loyal fans.

Funny or Die
What this website is all about can be deduced from its name. Funny or Die is a website where viewers can vote whether or not a submitted video, picture or joke is good ('funny') or not ('die'). Created by the Hollywood partnership of Will Ferrell (actor), Adam McKay (screenwriter) and Chris Henchy (producer), this comedy trio not only invite submissions by celebrities, but also budding comedians, who use the site to test their latest material.

YouTube
OK, so no list of the Internet's funniest websites could be complete without mentioning this video-sharing phenomenon. It doesn't matter what makes you smile, whether it's stunts gone wrong, comedy wedding dances, embarrassing parents, celebrity impersonations or adorable kittens; YouTube has videos of them all. The only downside to YouTube is that it's so big that it's easy to lose track of time and find yourself 3 hours later still frantically watching clips!
