Year after year, Hollywood and the rest of the world churn our comedy after comedy. Some are hits, some are like Christmas; complete turkeys. But which are the top funniest films of the last decade? We take a look.
Shrek (2001) was the first in this series of twisted fairy-tales where we met and fell in love with the charming characters of Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona. Ice Age (2002) was another computer animated movie both children and adults adore, introducing us to Sid the clumsy sloth, Manny the agitated mammoth and the secretly soft sabre-tooth tiger, Diego. And who can forget 'Captain' Jack Sparrow's hilarious entrance in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) as his pathetic sinking ship docks in at Port Royal.
The above films went onto have many sequels which were box-office hits, but there were plenty of other more adult comedies to remember, too. Shaun of the Dead (2004) propelled Brit actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost into Hollywood fame through this zombie homage. Steve Carell became a house-hold name after starring in the hilarious The 40 Year Old Virgin in 2005, then the following year some of the industry's best and new stars appeared in Little Miss Sunshine, a film which focused on an unconventional America family.
Towards the latter end of the noughties, a whole knew school of comedy appeared on the big screen, with many new actors becoming house hold names. Superbad (2007) launched the careers of Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, whilst we saw Russell Brand launch his Hollywood career in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) alongside Jason Segal and Mila Kunis. Even the entire cast of The Hangover (2009) became legends by showing men around the world how to NOT do a stag-night!
Due Date (2010) is a cringe worthy film where an unfortunate Peter (Robert Downey Jnr) has no other option but to make his way back to his pregnant wife in a car with the irritating aspiring actor, Ethan. And finally, Horrible Bosses (2011) follows three frustrated and angry employees as they try and get revenge on their abusive bosses, with some unfortunate coincidences on the way.
