Some Background on The Inbetweeners Cast

By Nelson Kurtz

They have starred in three series and a film of The Inbetweeners, and have helped secure various awards and nominations for the show. So what do we know about the cast of The Inbetweener?

Simon Bird

Although best known for his lead role in The Inbetweeners as Will McKenzie, his career has neither started nor will finish there. Bird became president of The Footlights group whilst studying at Cambridge University; a prestigious drama group that brought us the likes of Fry and Laurie. He later joined forces with Joe Thomas (is future Inbetweener) and Jonny Sweet (another up-and-coming comedian) to form 'The House of Windsor'; a sketch group that went onto become critically acclaimed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2007. Since finishing series 3 of The Inbetweeners, Bird has also starred in another Channel 4 comedy show, Friday Night Dinner.

Joe Thomas

Thomas was also a member of The Footlights while he was studying at Cambridge. It was here he met co-writer Jonny Sweet, and together they created Project V; an online comedy show. After these two and Bird also created 'The House of Windsor' his next biggest role was of course The Inbetweeners. Thomas has since, however, also gone onto star in a new TV show about university students, Fresh Meat, on Channel 4.

James Buckley

Despite going on to portray the foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright in The Inbetweeners, Buckley actually started his acting career in the West End aged 11. He then went on to secure a number of small TV roles in the likes of The Bill and Holby City, before landing his role at Jay. In 2010, he starred in Rock & Chips as Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in this prequel BBC show. Earlier this year, he also appeared in The Search for Tony Blair, a 1 hour satirical TV film.

Blake Harrison

Despite playing the slightly slow character of Neil Sutherland in The Inbetweeners, Harrison is anything but. Having studied at the BRIT school (where stars such as Jessie J, Amy Winehouse and Adele also attended), he has gone onto perform in various fringe productions, independent films as well as TV roles including most famously, Neil.
