Creating A Funny Quotes Website

By Christopher Abell

Having a great sense of humor is a wonderful quality, and sharing it with others will brighten their day. It will be easiest to share a brilliant sense of humor on a website of funny quotes and stories, or by adding in a few choice nuggets of funny material to a personal or business web site to spice it up.

Most businesses have a blank wall space, like a bulletin board, in the break room for employees to post things of interest for each other. Most employees absolutely love finding hilarious cartoons or inspirational sayings and stories hidden up there among the notices selling things and giving away pets. Making people laugh is a wonderful and easy way to make their day better, but anything that is going to be posted should be approved by human resources first so that no one gets in trouble.

Making a website full of this kind of material is usually really easy. There are many companies that offer free or highly discounted website hosting services and have templates available for pages to make them easy to set up. These sites are very user friendly and usually have a customer support number available for clients who are having trouble getting started.

Depending on the amount of material to be posted, organizing the site can be challenging. If there is a great deal of written information, it would be best to have several pages that can be accessed from the home page. Since some jokes will be appropriate for several categories, picking the most relevant one will be important.

Inappropriate humor is not a good thing to add to a website because the potential audience is unknown and no one wants to offend people. If something questionable must be included, however, a warning should be posted before the material is presented that asks anyone who is not of legal age to leave that page. A warning that the content may be offensive to some would also be nice so that readers know what to expect and can skip that page if they wish.

Visual jokes, like pictures with captions, are great for breaking up the monotony of endless text and can add a quality of depth to the site. If a cartoon is going to be posted, permission to publish it on the Internet will need to be obtained to avoid violating any copyrights.

Since most jokes will be typed and can be lengthy, it is important to choose a font and color scheme that will be kind to the eyes of the reader. A font size of fourteen, for instance, will be easier to read than a font size of twelve. Even if a standard template is being used to set up the web pages, the font and size of the text can be altered to suit the purpose of the designer. Dark on dark color schemes can fatigue the eye, so some contrast should be present between the color of the text and the background.

To avoid any claims of plagiarism, take care to always list the original author of a joke if known. Most jokes do not have a known author because they have been told so many times by so many different people, but they can be listed as anonymous or unknown.
