How To Avoid Joke Explanation

By Dorothea Garner

Using jokes when in a social gathering is a great way to meet new people and gain a lot of rapport. Making people laugh can actually lower their guard and make them feel comfortable. However, although a lot of people try to be funny in their conversations, it does not always work out. If the people do not get the joke, then one has no choice but to have an awkward joke explanation session.

In order to perfect the simple art of making jokes, one needs a lot of practice. For some, it can come naturally, but others need to acquire it through hard work. There are some people who know what to say and how to act. For those who do not, follow some of these tricks.

Whenever a comedian is on stage, he is always in motion. The reason behind this is because he wants people to have the energy and enthusiasm that he has. So if one were to make another person laugh, he also has to be energetic and enthusiastic so that his energy can be transferred to the person he is talking to.

Being energetic is still not enough to make people laugh. The content must also be good as well. The best possible way to tell jokes would probably be to tell a funny story about a real life experience or a story that is at least based on one. By doing this, one will be able to connect with the person he is talking to easily. If he told some lame jokes or some puns, people would probably be annoyed at him.

As stated above, how one delivers a story is actually a big factor on making jokes funny. The thing is, if one does not know how to relay a message properly, no one will understand it. The same goes for story telling. If one cannot tell his story properly and clearly, then no one will know what he is taking about. So keep it simple and it will work.

So once the jokes are already set up, then one may tell it anytime he wants. However, he should first know about the person he is telling it to. Since everyone comes from different environments and have different cultures, not everyone will get the joke. So the best thing to do first would be to ask questions and listen. Then he should adjust according to that person.

If a person still does not get the punchline even after all these steps have been exhausted, then it is time to give up. To save some embarrassment, just change the subject. Do not wait for an awkward silence to arise as it will spoil the mood. Just pretend nothing happened and continue talking.

So if one would want to avoid another joke explanation, then these tips would help. Now if one would want to be funny, then he has to practice a lot. However, if a person does not laugh, do not take it personally as not everyone has a sense of humor.
