Mildly Amusing Rants From A Limousine Driver Who Lothes Wedding Ceremonies!

By Karen Stevenson

Being a driver for a Ft Myers limo company I see my share of off the wall weddings. Occasionally it appears the next one is attempting to outdo the last. Here is merely a taste of what I mean.

Not too far back I drove a wedding party where the bride got out of the limo with 2 beers and a pack of cigarettes in hand. I like to refer to this as the '2 beers and a pack of smokes ' wedding.

Even though this wedding, to say the least, was anything but normal, it had to be one of the most fun weddings EVER! Sure, it was a tiny unusual which became apparent when the most easygoing set of people I have seen in a while got into the limo with 2 coolers full of beer and liquor. When I drove up at the location for the wedding, I was parked in an open field in the dead of summer for 2 hours. It was SWELTERING. Not a cloud in the sky. The sun was beating down. The limousine was ungodly hot. I looked like I had been swimming. The doors were open on the limousine and everyone was sweating. The best part, nobody appeared to notice. It became a true party after the ceremony and all through the pictures. In true redneck form, the party didn't end until the beer ran out. At which point everybody loaded into the limo and we were off to the reception.

Talking of receptions A different wedding party I drove for about the same time, with a completely different type of clientele, was straight out of the tabloids. I'd like to pass this one along as a public service statement, please be prepared for your upcoming wedding ceremony. Making your limousine driver take you to the closest big national chain store (the one with the blue sign that has got a grocery on one side and a department store on the other) so you can pick up your catering food order between the ceremony and the wedding reception is simply tacky. All the folks in the parking lot are not guffawing and pointing because they believe that you are cool sitting out front of the building in a mega stretch SUV limo. They are laughing because they know it's tacky too!

These are merely a couple of my many journeys from the active wedding season here in southwest Florida. As long as the weather remains ideal the majority of the year, I don't figure I will run out of stories anytime soon.
